Who You Kiss For Fun

A humorous slice of life drama, the play follows Julie, a second generation Asian-American teen, who sometimes kisses her Asian best friend for fun until he tells her she should date White people more. Meanwhile David, her other Asian best friend, is forced to watch her spiral while struggling with the emasculation and foreignness he feels as an Asian man.

CAST

All characters are from Chinese speaking countries but if actors cannot be cast as such they should still all be Asian. Am flexible with changes to exact countries being made according to actors

JULIE: 18-year old girl, she holds the trio together

DAVID: 18-year old guy, struggling with the emasculation of Asian men, the grown up of the trio. Not neccesarily not attractive.

WILLIAM: 18-year old guy, extremely attractive, his relationship to his Asian identity is unclear, the least mature of the trio

JULIE’S MOM: 50s, trying not to be an “Asian parent”

JULIE’S DAD: 50s, really likes gardening in his free time

Manifest Destiny (in-progress)

Manifest Destiny takes place at the bottom of the ocean in an expanding military base during the American war on Asia. Laura, an Asian-American girl develops practically limitless supernatural powers. Michael, one of her teammates, is an Asian-American man secretly rebelling against the oppressive laws the American government has placed on Asian-Americans and is hoping to find allies within the team. Meanwhile, a Sea Monster watches and chooses a select few to make contact with.

CAST

All of the Asian characters’ parents chose to side with Americans and live within the enforced restrictions. All characters are military trained. Laura, Kyle, and Paige are childhood “friends” 

LAURA-22-Asian, has supernatural powers that let her do almost anything she wants. Calls herself a pacifist who hates power.

PAIGE-22-White, she is genuinely a good person, wants to be the President of the United States, an advocate against the anti-Asian sentiment 

KYLE-22-Asian, his family is consistently under the public eye and presented as the “ideal Asian family.” He will not be having kids or marrying purely because of the public image the government is trying to encourage.

JOHN-late 20s-White, military doctor, is married to Laura to help protect her rights but wants to marry a girl on the surface

MICHAEL-late 20s-Asian, joined this expedition with interest in getting Paige and Kyle on board with his ideas

THE SEA MONSTER-dragon-like, they can definitely turn people into mermaids
